Luke 12:56  hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?

The clouds are rising

  • How will a shift in global Christianity change missions?
  • Will missions survive a 3rd soil generation(Luke 8:7,14)
  • Are good intensions good enough?
  • How will freedom in China disturb a growing revival?
  • How will nuclear weapons in the Middle East shape religion?
  • Are we marking the danger signals of a 2 Timothy 3 community?

In one way or another, whether we want to or not, through involvement or apathy, we are shaping our fragile world.  Better to be informed than to be ignorant, better to be involved than to be apathetic, better to be included than to be ignored.

We tend to look at the World through a keyhole. We have a limited view, limited knowledge and often our own comfort limits our understanding.  The World has changed dramatically during the past 10 years. Mission has changed dramatically during the past 10 years.  Sadly, strategies and involvement have not changed accordingly.

The ‘Iron Curtain’ has lifted and the "Veil of Islam" was drawn. The fact that Communism came to a fall at the same time as the moral decay in the West, gave birth to a growth of Islamic fundamentalism. The World changed from an “ism” that declared: ‘there is no God’ to a new force that declares: ‘There is ONE God.’

There is a definite increase in extremist movements within Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. Persecution is on the increases and the chalenge has shifted from "Church Planting" to "Church Equiping".  In many regions where there were no Christian witness we now find a second generation of believers who need to be equipped. At the same time, regions that were open to the Gospel have become ‘closed’ and many regions still have no access to the Gospel. Have we, as a Church, truly adapted to these trends.

Surely the words of Jesus (Mark 13:37)  What I say to you, then, I say to all: Watch!" is applicable to us as well.  WATCH!  The warning is clear.  The clouds are gathering.  In Luke 12:54-56 Jesus gave a clear warning to all who fail to be alert.   He said to the crowd: "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'It's going to rain,' and it does.   And when the south wind blows, you say, 'It's going to be hot,' and it is.   Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?

Our God is a God on a mission and He is calling us into that mission, presenting us with an awe inspiring opportunity to partner with Him in what He is doing and where He is moving .

Are we doing missions for the sake of missions or do our activities reflect a world in change?  Do we fully comprehend how current events are pointing towards the Kingdom of God?  Do we understand the impact of global events on missions?  Are we part of God’s mission or simply running our own?  Do we strategise for a time such as this?

Esther 4:14 .... And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?"

When was the last time you attended a missions conference which included the following topics on the agenda:

  • Extremist activities and nuclear weapons in the Gulf and its effect on missions.
  • An apocalyptic priest in Iran.
  • A new face of Islam in the East.
  • A global shift of Christianity from the West to the East and the South.
  • The challenges of freedom in Asia and a decrease of traditional Christianity in the Middle East.
  • The gateways to the Arab World and the revival in Asia.
  • The continued decline of the Church in the West.

….. Are these Seasonal changes or divine events in God’s timetable?  We need to STOP, evaluate, alternate and rejuvenate.   Nothing that happens in this world is a coincidence and our mission activities and strategies should reflect an ever changing world.

The INcontext conference will address world trends, Hotspots  the global shift of Christianity, the change in generations and the effect of current events on missions world-wide.

But it is A Mission Conference with a difference.
